Minute
This past campout was a great success. This was the first
overnight campout for our new leadership and though there is a learning
curve expected, the leaders did fine. Our boys are still a little
rambunctious and are needing some reminding about leadership respect,
but I expect this mentality to change.
This past month, we also have four dad's
that have stepped up to fulfill the role of ASM in charge of a patrol.
They are as follows:
In addition to these Dad's, Mr. Floyd
Hobbs has volunteered to be our Eagle Coordinator. Floyd will be
working closely with our "near Eagle" boys and help them with their
final trek.
Please give these gentlemen a thanks when
you see them.
Next month.
Our next campout will be the Topsanah Fall
Camporee. This event will be held 11/21 - 11/23 in Highland
Village. This fall camporee's
theme is "Highland Games". Kilts will be required and I'll be
coordinating this with the boys.
Events: Pole Throw, Weight Toss, Ladder Building, Fire Building,
Sheaf Toss, Saving Damsels in Distress, and many more!

Event Report & Updates
March Campout - Colorado Bend State Park
The campout at Colorado Bend
State Park was a great trip. After a late 11:00 PM arrival at the
campsite, the patrols setup their campsites and finally turned in around
1:30 AM.
Saturday morning, daylight revealed just how beautiful our campsite
was. It was right next to the Colorado river with 2 huge climbing trees
in the center. Across the river, a sheer rock cliff rose straight up
and morning fog hovered over the water. After breakfast, one group of
scouts went on the Gorman Falls waterfall tour and one group of scouts
went on the Gorman Cave tour. Meanwhile back at camp, the Wolves and
Flying Eagles teamed up to put up the troop sign. After lunch, another
group of scouts went on the Gorman Falls waterfall tour while the other
scouts enjoyed the climbing trees and a friendly game of football. That
evening, patrols prepared their dinners and everyone enjoyed a fun
campfire.
Sunday morning, another group of scouts went on the Gorman Falls
waterfall tour and another group of scouts went on the Gorman Cave
tour. The cave tour was enjoyed by all that attended and one of the
groups even got bombarded by bats. While the tours were finishing up,
the other scouts broke camp and enjoyed some more football. After a few
thorns and roses, the Troop left around 12:30 PM and headed back to the
scout hut.

April Campout - Spring Camporee 2003
Throughout this campout
experience we accomplished many things and broke old traditions.
When we arrived at our camp site, we actually set up in day light for
once. By the time the sun went down, our troop sign was half-way up in
which the Wolves were in charge of.
On Saturday, we were awakened
by the roosters. It was about 7:00 a.m. and we had until about 8:30 a.m.
to cook breakfast. As soon as breakfast was cleaned we took off for a
flag ceremony and a brief meeting about how the day would go. The
troop then split into patrols and we started our competitions.
Some games required knots and others required good scout skills.
Around 11:30 a.m. we began to
regroup back at our campsite to start lunch which lasted until about
1:00 p.m. and then we headed back to the games to continue our
competition. At this point we were more prepared to play the other
games because we got several tips from others who had already played the
games.
From 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. we
started our dinners, talked and played catch. At 7:30 p.m. we left
for the campfire sang songs, performed skits, and awards were presented.
Every patrol received an award of some sort. Below is the breakdown of
the troop awards:

The Wise Owls received the most awards in our troop and were proud of
it (a little to proud if you ask me).
At 9:00 p.m., we went on a round trip hike in absolute
"supposed" silence. We came back to the fire and lined up for an
O.A. ceremony. We had two scouts P. Stoltenberg and B. Hayes get
tapped out. During the ceremony, we did a little more talking than
we should have which was later addressed when we got back to camp.
Shortly after we all slipped off to bed.
Sunday, we woke up at 7:00 a.m. and cooked breakfast. About
8:45 a.m. we broke down camp and packed the trailer. Soon after we
proudly returned home with 8 ribbons.
